OUTDOOR SCHOOL SITE AND STAFF
THE SITE AND FACILITIES
From our cabins to the dining hall to all of our recreational amenities, there is much to take advantage of on the property during your trip with us.
CABINS
We have a variety of cabins on camp that we can utilize for your school’s needs. All cabins sleep 9-12 people in a bunk bed-style layout. Every cabin has internal heating, and most contain internal A/C as well. There are indoor, self-contained bathrooms within close proximity of every sleeping space that include sinks, toilets, showers, and internal heating as well. Whether you’re in an A-Frame, Dorm, or Upper Cabin, you and your students will be well-sheltered for your outdoor school experience.
DINING HALL
Mealtimes can be some of the most important times during outdoor school, so we invested in creating a space that can provide a great experience for every meal. Our full-service dining hall has space for all of our guests, a salad and breakfast bar, a small comfort space, and all of our kitchen needs. Our kitchen staff are prepared with a well-crafted menu for whichever season you join us for and are always prepared for any dietary restrictions that are provided ahead of time. So come in and grab a hot plate or an evening treat, talk amongst your peers, and enjoy your meal during your trip with us.
AMENITIES
Alongside our cabins and dining hall, the camp has much to offer in terms of amenities. We have a fully equipped archery range, climbing tower, plenty of outdoor spaces for your students to take part in lessons, spots to stop along the creek, a wonderful campfire space, and an extensive team-building circuit. Scattered around camp we have also increased our water stations so that everyone can stay hydrated while walking through our vast trail system.
ACCESSIBILITY
A part of our mission at Lutherwood Oregon is to make sure that outdoor school is available and renovations that increase that accessibility. Our Upper cabins have new non-gendered single stall bathrooms. An extensive sidewalk pathway system has been set around connecting all the cabins and makes traversing our main part of camp much easier. These projects, along with more coming soon, are important to us, and we can’t wait to have you on camp to experience them.
THE STAFF
We go through a thorough hiring process when it comes to choosing instructors to serve schools during the season. They come from all over and represent educators that care for students and their growth outdoors.
HIRING
We have an extensive interview and hiring process for new instructors to see what they have to offer your students and if they will be the right fit here at Outdoor School at Lutherwood Oregon (OSLO). We conduct two interviews with all potential candidates in order to really gauge their experience and qualifications. We then conduct a national background check for all applicants who pass the interview process. Every applicant then is greeted and we get to know each and every one to provide you with glimpses of who your student will be working with.
TRAINING
Our two-week training encompasses all that our instructors might need to know to provide your school with the best possible experience. They are trained to facilitate archery and the climbing tower safely and effectively. They are shown each lesson and then given the opportunity to teach those lessons back to us. We provide break-out sessions on child behavior management, child development and safety, how to care for themselves, using nature as a resource through exploration, and much more. All staff are Red Cross First Aid/AED certified in case of any presenting emergency.
